The plots below are from an AMWG presentation from Cecile in 2014:
The warm layer around 750-meter (> 0.4 °C bias) was a signature of simulations with the Spectral Element dycore.
In contrast, the temperature bias using the FV dycore was significantly smaller (~ 0.2 °C):
Below is the same plot from one of the latest CESM3 PI-control simulations (098) that has run for a sufficient time:
The ~ 0.2 °C temperature bias between 400-1000 m is more consistent with the biases obtained with CESM2-FV than with CESM2-SE.
