A mechanisms to link different datasets collected from the same expedition

Do we already have such a mechanism to enable a submitter to indicate previous submissions that are collected from the same expedition as an existing submission?

It's not in the metadata editor, but it is in the XML schema, so it shouldn't be too much trouble to add that in. I'll put it on the citation page.

Well, on further review: There is a "relatedDatasets" section, but it is not constrained in any way, and I'm not sure how one defines an "expedition"
The relatedDataset element includes a dataset name, and a link/URI. Should we require the link/URI?
