Find alternative to mpl-modest-image

Since mpl-modest-image is no longer maintained upstream, we should evaluate alternatives or explicitly take on maintenance of that project.

(I’m not sure this is the right place to file this issue. I found a note to this effect in my personal todo list and I want to track is somewhere public.)

I think Thomas A Caswell (@tacaswell) requested it to be transferred to the mpl org. Not sure about the outcome.
