Problems with running via Proton

I am trying to run this randomiser on Linux (Fedora 40). When attempting to run the randomiser exe within the same prefix as The Witness (via Protontricks), the following error message is displayed:
Was able to access the Witness.exe, but couldn't find the base process address!
Is there any chance that I can get this working?

Which version of The Witness is this?

Tested versions (for Windows) are Steam, Humble and Epic. There shouldn't be a difference with Proton, so let's try to eliminate this possibility first

Getting the same error with Steam version of the game, running GE-Proton10-26. I know that proton offset the base process while wrapping it, so might be some adjustment needed there?

Found it, final two lines in the output is the hint. When running protontricks it will lock down access to the other processes in the prefix, if you disable pressure-vessel using STEAM_RUNTIME=0 protontricks-launch The.Witness.Randomizer.for.Archipelago.exe it works fine!

In summary:

• Run the game normally
• Run protontrick with env variable STEAM_RUNTIME=0
• Select the games proton prefix

Hey, the method that worked for me was to:

1. Open the prefix in Protontricks
2. Launch an interactive CMD shell within Protontricks
3. Launch both the randomiser and the game itself from that shell.

I just launched the game using steam, then selected the steam prefix in the dialog you get when you start STEAM_RUNTIME=0 protontricks-launch The.Witness.Randomizer.for.Archipelago.exe

hey all! i finally managed to get it running :) it just took this monstrosity of a command:
(in a terminal in the dir where the randomiser is. run the witness like regular on steam, WITH PROTON VERSION 8.0.x)
STEAM_COMPAT_CLIENT_INSTALL_PATH="/home/username/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/210970" STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH="/home/username/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/210970" WINEPREFIX="/home/username/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/210970/pfx" ~/.steam/root/steamapps/common/Proton\ 8.0/proton run The.Witness.Randomizer.for.Archipelago.exe
put that in a .sh file and it's all good now! thank you for the help :)

I tried a similar script as the previous commend while running the game under the Flatpak version of Steam, and I ended up getting the following error:

Process not found in RAM. Please open The Witness and then try again. See FindProcessErrorLog.txt for list of found processes.

Is this a known issue with the Flatpak version or am I actually doing something wrong?
