1.6.8 type assertion fails when checking buffers

i ran into a small problem when going through my codebases to remove some ---@diagnostic tags for buffers:

assert(type(stateBuffer) == "buffer") -- invalid primitive type name `buffer`. (invalid-class-name)

Bumping this issue, as buffers still don't work correctly.

Will try to work on a fix when I finish my current project, and then send a pull request.
