rutorrent unable to connect

hello.
i need help to check and correct me where i did wrong.

my vps is debian 11 with kernel 5.10.0-13-amd64.
i'm using nginx from nginx-extras package.
no ufw no firewalls.
rtorrent version 0.9.8 installed using apt.
rutorrent taken from releases 3.10.

however i get white page like rutorrent unable to connect :

hi @tryoutuser, could you post your php config file? There should be a setting to enable php error logs.

also some themes are not working, such as dark better and material design.

Hi @tryoutuser, the commit I sent you is the most stable. The only reason I haven't created a new release yet, is because we are still testing a major change to the RSS plugin.

The $profilePath is correct as shown in the new release. It has to go back two directories to reach the parent directory. It starts in the newly created utility folder. It must be set like this, otherwise it will create the profile path in the php folder and cause other problems.

If python is installed, make sure it's accessible by the web server. What is the output of command -v python ?

The reason these two themes are not working properly is because they link to a third party repository. It's problematic when people download the latest zip from our releases. They do not install properly. I will fix this issue. You can get them here and install manually.

weird i did not see utility folder. it goes to share folder instead.

command -v python returned nothing.

The utility folder is inside the php folder. The $profilePath variable goes utility->php->ruTorrent. It is not recommended to change the variable like this. The share folder is not intended create and execute inside your php folder. If the new profile path doesn't work, it's better to fix the root cause of the problem, than to create anther problem.

python is not working by default because Debian 11 removed the symlink when deprecating version 2. Python 2 is almost obsolete. The best course of action is test Python 3 for legacy scripts. The old version may stop working in the near future.

You can do this with sudo apt install python-is-python3. However, it's important to be mindful of any issues. Compatibility for legacy scripts is not guaranteed. It's good to report any problems quickly, to increase the chances of a script update.

ok i reverted the profile path back to ../../share i thought it's still the same like old version which is just one parent dir up ../share

if enabling python symlink is possibly causing issues then i rather don't do it. i'll disable cloudflare plugin.

It seems to be a permission issue, I had same error on Debian before I switch to EL8. Are rtorrent and ruTorrent running with the same user?

yes, everything is under the same user. i have rtorrent running with screen and user+group permissions are allowed to read, write and execute.

Can you try to remove the most recent folder in the following path?

/var/www/rutorrent-3.10-1/share/users//settings/tasks

Sometimes this folder can cause issues while a task was not closed properly.
