group says it isn't closed when it is

My roles are failing to load because it says my regex pattern has an unclosed group when it is closed.

Your issue appears to be caused by a limitation in how command override rules get parsed. Currently, your rule looks like the following:

Each key in the commands object is parsed as a set of patterns joined by spaces. The splitting occurs first, so essentially five patterns are being parsed:

• tag
• (\\S*)
• (add|remove|list)(
• place|
• holder)?

In this form, the reason why the pattern supposedly has an unclosed group is more apparent. There unfortunately does not appear to be a workaround to allow the desired behavior in one rule, but I believe two rules will allow you to achieve what you want:
