open oil module and levels sigma rho from CROCO

I am using the openoil module and I was wondering how it works.

Does it matter if I put a current field with sigma rho levels (input from the model croco, croco_his.nc) or will it always use only the surface currents?

I'm asking because for this module it works for both cases, input of surface currents and with a field of currents with depth.(32 levels sigma rho)
