A template character background

For example, when you wanna create a stardew valley character. There's a template where the background only have a size, big as stardew character.

Maybe 16x16 for stardew
24x24 for some games
And 32x32 for some famous 2d side scrolling game.

So when people wanna make the same size as those game character. They already know which one is which.

By background, do you mean canvas size, the checker size (the little grey-white boxes) or something else?
