Negating the field 'species' doesn't seem to work #1

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. query for species:9606 and see that quite a few servers using the reference
implementation are returning data.
2. query for "NOT species:9606" and see that all services but IntAct (which is
not using the reference implementation) show 0 results
