Duke Nukem sounds truncated

I tried the duke nukem pack but a lot of sounds are "truncated" before the end of the audio, this wasn't happening with the default peon sound.

Thanks, and glad you are enjoying it.

I checked the source files in the duke_nukem pack and they are intact: each one is a complete mono 22050 Hz WAV at its full length (0.7 to 1.7 sec), and they play start to finish locally. So the truncation is happening at playback time, not in the audio itself.

The usual cause for short clips getting cut off is the playback process being reaped when the hook returns, which bites short sounds harder than the longer default peon lines. To narrow it down, could you share:

• your OS (macOS / Windows / Linux / WSL2) and how you run peon (Claude Code hook, relay over SSH, devcontainer, etc.)
• whether it happens on every duke nukem sound or only some of them

With that I can point at the right playback backend and a fix.

sure! I'm using macOS Tahoe latest version and I'm using it as a skill in Claude Code from terminal directly on my Mac
it seems to happen only on Duke Nukem sound, I couldn't replace it with default warcraft peon sounds, but I'll try another package to check if it happens again

Thanks for the extra detail. The fact that it only hits Duke Nukem and not the Warcraft peon defaults points at clip length: the Duke Nukem files run up to ~1.7s, longer than most default clips, so they're the most exposed if the playback process gets cut short when the hook returns and its process group is cleaned up. On macOS we detach playback so it should survive, but Tahoe has been more aggressive about reaping descendant processes.

One quick check to confirm: trigger a Duke Nukem sound from a plain terminal outside Claude Code (peon --status plays a test sound) and see if the clip plays all the way through there. If it plays fully standalone but truncates inside the hook, that confirms the hook lifecycle is the culprit and I can harden the detach. If it truncates even standalone, it's something else in the playback path and I'll dig there instead.
