Why this If-Then-Else doesn't work?

Hi, apologies for such a basic question.

I have the following code:

Type = 1
#If Type ≡ 1
data = 'Table 1 will be used'
#Else if Type ≡ 0
data = 'Table 2 will be used'
#Else
data = 'Error'
#end if
data

but it has an error. I want the "data" variable to output a string to the results depending on the variable "Type".

You can't assign text to variables in Calcpad.

You can do this, though, if it's what you want to:

Type = 1
#If Type ≡ 1
'Table 1 will be used
#Else if Type ≡ 0
'Table 2 will be used
#Else
'Error
#end if

That works well....but is it possible to "save" the string such that i can call this string in another part of the code?

say I wanted to reiterate which table I am using in another part of the calculation, i can just type in data$ or something?

Thanks strsthapa! The code works, but I would like the data$ to "stick" to the variable "Type", i.e. say if Type = 1, i want a variable to be "Table 1 will be used", and i want this variable to change dynamically if Type = 0.

i.e. in pseudo code this will be:
Type = 1
#if Type = 1
data$ = 'Table 1 will be used
#else if Type = 0
data$='Table 2 will be used
#else
'data$='Error
#end if

so if i type data$, it will "dynamically" change to 'Table 1 will be used and 'Table 2 will be used or 'Error, depending on the variable "Type".

How do i achive this?

The code works - but it will only show the "Table x will be used" string if i press F5 to see the output. Otherwise I am seeing the output as shown on the screenshot below. is there a setting i can use so that i will display the string automatically on the right-hand-side?
