We are happy to answer your questions about the code or discuss technical ideas.

Please complete the following checklist (by adding [x]):

  • I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates
  • This isn't a feature request
  • This is not a report about my app not working as expected

I'm exploring whether Proton would accept an external contribution to implement automatic birthday events in Proton Calendar based on the birthday field in Proton Contacts as requested on UserVoice.

Before investing time in a design and PR, I’d like to understand:

  1. Whether this kind of cross-product feature (Contacts → Calendar integration) is within scope for community contributions, or if it depends on internal services/APIs that are not exposed publicly.
  2. What the main technical blockers are today (e.g., encryption model, service boundaries, performance, sync model, or product decisions).
  3. Whether there are architectural constraints in the current Calendar or Contacts APIs that would make this non-viable from the client side alone.

I’m happy to align with your preferred approach and discuss implementation details if this is something you’d consider accepting.
