[Feature Request] Extended Emulated Vram

For modding purposes, it would be very helpful that more Vram is available, especially for high resolution texture mods.

Perhaps a per game option to increase the available Vram above the 'normal' amount in a real PS3.

This would promote more elaborated graphic mods for games emulated on RPCS3.

We had a discussion about this previously and if I remember correctly there was some hardcoded address ranges in games and firmware that would not behave nicely if we extend the vram area and pushed other things back to make room for it.

Then a per game option would do the trick? There is an extended Vram custom build for playing Persona 5 with mods, and it worked perfectly from my experience. It has not been updated for a year though

What you want here is texture replacement

The issue is that using too much Vram will crash the emulator, even though your system can handle it. Hence my request to be able to increase the emulated Vram
Indeed the ultimate goal is being able to use high resolution texture mods, or any Vram hungry modifications

You can have texture replacement without modifying guest VRAM, that's probably what kd-11 is planning to do I'd assume

That's what was last discussed, the author of that build wanted to include his changes to rpcs3 as an option but the idea was shot down as it was simply far too hacky of a solution to be accepted. As Ani said, there's better solutions than shuffling memory around in a way that breaks most games.
