Contact sensor reporting wrong state

Hi. I have been struggling with this one and hope you can help.

I have setup a contact and motion sensor and it almost works.

The motion sensor works as expected in all scenarios, however the contact sensor (t5 GPIO13 only works properly (reports door is open when open and reports closed when closed) if the door is closed when the device (wemos d1 esp8266) is switched on. If the door is open when it's switched on, it reports the opposite (reports door is closed when open and reports door is open when closed)
