Chameleon Ultra completely bricked after official firmware update (DFU still works)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for help because my Chameleon Ultra no longer boots after updating with the official firmware.

Hardware:

• Bought from AliExpress
• The back says "NFC Toolkit"
• DFU identifies itself as:
  • Manufacturer: Proxgrind
  • Product: ChameleonUltra: hw_v1, fw_v256

What happened:

Initially everything worked.

Later Bluetooth stopped working completely.

USB still worked and CU GUI connected successfully.

I updated using the official firmware from the RfidResearchGroup GitHub hoping to fix BLE.

Firmware tested:

• ultra-dfu-app 2.0.0
• ultra-dfu-app 2.1.0
• ultra-dfu-app 2.2.0
• ultra-dfu-full 2.1.0
• ultra-dfu-full 2.2.0
• basic factory firmware

Current state:

• DFU still works.
• Firmware uploads successfully.
• During ultra-dfu-full the first stage completes.
• After reboot the device never reconnects.
• nrfutil reports:

Wait device connected failed:
Device event timeout

because after reboot only the center red LED stays on.

No BLE.
No USB application.
Buttons do nothing.

I also tried:

nrfutil device erase --all --traits nordicDfu

but erase is not supported.

Has anyone seen this before?

Is this an OEM "NFC Toolkit" board?

Can it still be recovered without SWD/J-Link?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a clone.

It seems like you already tried everything, so not much you can do without just debugging the firmware.

Might also be a hardware fault, but I doubt it.
