Setting up UST Event app in salesforce

Create a site

  1. In Setup go to User Interface -> Sites and Domains -> Sites
  2. Select a subdomain that is available. Since you are spinning up scratch orgs you may want to start incrementing a subdomain on a theme (myevents0001...myevents0002).
  3. Click "Register My Salesforce Site Domain"

Automate the rest of setup

  1. Run cci flow run config_site --org <org_name> to automate the rest of the setup steps.

Create a site record

After the subdomain is finished registering create a new site record, by clicking the "New" button next to the site header. Fill in the following data and then click "Save."

  1. In Setup go to User Interface -> Sites and Domains -> Sites
  2. Click the "New" button next to the site header
  3. Enter the following data in the form
    • Site Label: UST Events
    • Site Name: UST_Events
    • Active Site Home Page:
      • Select the magnifying glass look-up icon and in the dialog select USTEvent
    • Leave all other settings at their defaults
  4. Click "Save"
  5. Click the "Active" link under Action next to the site you just created
  6. Right click on the site URL and copy the URL to your clipboard. You will need it in the next stage of installation.

Set Custom Settings

Since each installation can have a different site URL we need to define that URL for the event application to use as it's root web presence. This is used for feed URLs for external sites to access and a host of other things.

  1. In Setup go to User Custom Code -> Custom Settings

  2. Click on the "Manage" link for the custom setting "UST Event Settings"

  3. Click "New" button just before the "Default Organization Level Value." There are two "New" buttons on the page. You will know you are on the wrong one if you are asked to assign a user or a profile. You should only need to enter the URL in the follow step.

  4. From step 6 in the "Create a site record" use the URL you copied there and enter it into the Community Based URL field.

  5. Click "Save"

Setting up site permissions

Why is there so many permissions to set? After setting up the Salesforce Site a public profile is created for that site to moderate all access by users not logged into a community (The guest public). Unfortunately, it is not possible to apply a permission set to a public user. If this were possible much of the headache below could be mitigated so up-vote the previous link.

  1. In Setup go to User Interface -> Sites and Domains -> Sites

  2. Click on the site label "UST Events"

  3. Click on the "Public Access Settings" button at the top of the record.

  4. Go to the "Enabled Visual Force Pages" heading and click on the "Edit" button. Make sure the following pages are enabled and then click "Save":

  5. Got to the "Enabled Apex Class Access" heading and click on the "Edit" button. Make sure the following Apex Classes are in the "Enabled Apex Classes" list and then click "Save":

  6. Find the "Field-Level Security" header and then find the UST Event object. You will need to set up permissions for each field in the object to allow public users (non-logged in) to be able to register and see events. Set the following field level permissions:
