Spatially and temporally varying wind forcing

Hello all,

I am relatively new to SHYFEM. Recently, I would like to use SHYFEM to do a storm-surge simulation. However, I found the wind forcing field is defined by the options of iwtype parameter. This parameter can only specify homogenous wind field. This setup seems to be too simple to describe the real wind field which is varying in both time and space. Has this functionality (spatially and temporally varying wind field) not implemented in SHYFEM yet? Or is there any workaround to provide the spatially and temporally varying wind field as the input file?

Hi MGYBY, thank you for your interest in SHYFEM. The iwtype parameter just specifies what units the wind is given. There is no problem to have a spatially varying wind field varying in time. If you have netcdf files you can use the nc2fem utility to convert nc files to fem files, the ones that will be read by shyfem. Running "nc2fem -h" shows you some help on how to apply the utility.
