Description
Background
Completed transcripts are useful on their own, but many users also need help turning them into more usable formats depending on context.
Examples include:
- a short summary for quick overview
- key points for faster review
- action items for meetings
- study notes for students
This is especially relevant in higher education, where recorded material may be used for teaching, meetings, research support, or accessibility-related follow-up.
A built-in assistant could generate different structured outputs from a completed transcript and present them in a clear side panel in the UI.
Requested functionality
Add an AI Assistant for completed transcripts that can generate multiple types of derived outputs based on the transcript content.
The first version should support at least the following modes:
- Summary
- Key Points
- Action Items
- Study Notes
The assistant should work on already completed transcripts and generate a separate, readable output in the UI without changing the transcript itself.
Expected behavior
Step 1: Open a completed transcript
The user opens a completed transcript in the interface.
Step 2: Select assistant mode
The user can choose one of several assistant views, for example:
- Summary
- Key Points
- Action Items
- Study Notes
These should be presented as clear UI tabs or buttons in a side panel.
Step 3: Generate output
The assistant analyzes the transcript and generates the selected output format.
Examples:

A short and readable summary of the overall content. -
Key Points
A structured list of the most important concepts, topics, or takeaways. -
Action Items
A list of tasks, decisions, or follow-up points derived from the content, where relevant. -
Study Notes
A more pedagogical output intended to support student review of lectures or academic content.
Step 4: Display result alongside transcript
The generated assistant output should be shown in a dedicated side panel next to the transcript or media player.
The transcript itself must remain unchanged.
Important constraints
The assistant must not:
- overwrite or alter the original transcript
- silently edit transcript text
- present generated content as if it were part of the source transcript
- invent action items where none are reasonably supported by the content without clearly framing them as inferred
The assistant should generate derived outputs, not modify the transcript itself.
Language behavior
The assistant should generate output in the same language as the transcript, unless a later feature explicitly adds translation or language switching.
Examples:
- Swedish transcript → Swedish assistant output
- English transcript → English assistant output
Buttons, labels, and system UI controls should remain in English, consistent with the rest of the product.
Export of assistant output
The generated assistant output should be exportable as a separate file, independent from the original transcript.
The first version should support export of the selected assistant output as a standalone text file, for example:
- summary
- key points
- action items
- study notes
This export should not modify or replace the original transcript export.
Possible first export formats:
- TXT
- optionally RTF in a later step
The exported file should clearly represent derived assistant output, not the original transcript.

Why this matters
This feature would make Sunet Scribe more useful as a platform for understanding and reusing spoken content, not just transcribing it.
Benefits include:
- faster overview of long recordings
- easier extraction of important points
- support for meeting follow-up
- better support for students reviewing lectures
- increased value of transcripts in everyday academic workflows
This would also help position Sunet Scribe as more than a transcription tool by adding practical AI-assisted content support on top of the transcript.
Suggested first output types
Summary
A concise overview of what the transcript is about.
Key Points
A structured list of the most important ideas, concepts, or discussion points.
Action Items
Tasks, decisions, or follow-up items that can reasonably be extracted from the transcript content.
This mode is especially relevant for meetings, workshops, and project discussions.
Study Notes
A more pedagogical summary format aimed at students, for example:
- core concepts
- definitions
- explanations
- topic structure
This mode is especially relevant for lectures and educational recordings.
Out of scope for first version
The first version does not need to include:
- editable prompt customization
- user-defined assistant modes
- export of assistant output
- automatic regeneration after transcript edits
- translation of assistant output
- teacher-specific or institution-specific templates
- chat-style follow-up interaction
These can be considered later.
Acceptance criteria
- Assistant is available for completed transcripts
- User can choose between at least:
- Summary
- Key Points
- Action Items
- Study Notes
- Generated output is shown separately from the original transcript
- The transcript itself is never modified by the assistant
- Assistant output uses the same language as the transcript
- Buttons and UI labels remain in English
- Action-item output is only produced where the content reasonably supports it
- Generated assistant output can be exported as a separate file
- Exported assistant output is clearly separated from the original transcript
- Export does not overwrite or replace transcript export
