Error loading unmanaged library from path

To be honest I have no idea why you're manually trying to load native libraries when dotnet finds them automatically in the runtimes folder if you've set it up correctly. I would really like to use your NuGet package but it just doesn't work out of the box for me. For the record, I am running LMDE 6.

This library was written long before that functionality existed in .NET, ideally it'd be using the LibraryImportAttribute for all of that.
Just to make sure this is not a regression, does the base package work for you?
If not, could you try this branch: https://github.com/Saalvage/AssimpNetter/tree/fix/16?
It utilizes NativeLibrary.Load instead of the current logic.

Yes the base package does work and I had to revert to it. I'm a bit hesitant to try (big) projects without a NuGet package however. Maybe I am unfamiliar with NativeLibrary.Load but is it something like a managed version of LoadLibrary/dlopen? In any case, I have published multiple NuGet packages that rely on native libraries, and none of them do manual loading of any kind, it is all handled by dotnet.
