**Note**, GSOCs are quite competitive, and we often receive more applicants then slots awarded from Google. For this reason it is strongly recommended to contact us well in advance of the GSOC submission deadlines, and demonstrate via some initial contributions that you are likely to be able to make progress on the proposed project. Tackling smaller components that the GSOC project would build from, or demonstrate your knowledge of the library you will work on, are a good first step in learning the development process (i.e. how to modify the library you will work on, how to make Github pull requests, how to address feedback in reviews, etc).

The SciML project is a participant organization for Google Season of Docs. In this program, technical writers are paid to work on various SciML open source documentation. Each of the writers are paired with a team of mentors to help them learn various aspects of computational science, from numerical differential equations and scientific machine learning, to parallel and symbolic-numeric computing.
