| 12 | + |
| 13 | + |
| 14 | +We have reached the end of this abbreviated 2024 jelly bean season, |
| 15 | +and we're heading back to house of Brach's, |
| 16 | +whom it seems like we'll always be able to count on |
| 17 | +to release one limited edition set every year. |
| 18 | +This year's package has an Easter brunch theme. |
| 19 | +Let's dig in! |
| 20 | + |
| 21 | + |
| 22 | +## Size and shape |
| 23 | + |
| 24 | +Quality control has bever been one of Brach's strong suits, |
| 25 | +and consistency is again a bit of a hobgoblin here. |
| 26 | +The smallest beans are smaller than Jelly Belly beans, |
| 27 | +and the biggest are probably double that in volume. |
| 28 | +The average size is just right, though. |
| 29 | + |
| 30 | +The eggy shape is a bit more consistent, |
| 31 | +but there are a fair number of slightly lumpy ones, |
| 32 | +and there's no attempt at dimpling into a proper bean shape. |
| 33 | + |
| 34 | +**2 out of 5 beans** |
| 35 | + |
| 36 | + |
| 37 | +## Chewability |
| 38 | + |
| 39 | +These Brach's jelly beans have chewability that is perfectly down the middle. |
| 40 | +No complaints at all in this department! |
| 41 | + |
| 42 | +**5 out of 5 beans** |
| 43 | + |
| 44 | + |
| 45 | +## Texture |
| 46 | + |
| 47 | +Brach's has never been a paragon of texture, either. |
| 48 | +In this case, the shells are not very substantial, breaking down |
| 49 | +rather than breaking apart, |
| 50 | +and the insides seem slightly grittier than last year's |
| 51 | +[Desserts of the World](/brachs-desserts-of-the-world) offering. |
| 52 | + |
| 53 | +**3 out of 5 beans** |
| 54 | + |
| 55 | + |
| 56 | +## Taste and flavor |
| 57 | + |
| 58 | +
|
| 59 | +
Flavors
|
| 60 | +
|
| 61 | +
:blueberry: :maple_leaf: :pancakes: Blueberry Maple Pancake
|
| 62 | +
:strawberry: :milk_glass: Berry Smoothie
|
| 63 | +
:candy: :coffee: Caramel Cold Brew
|
| 64 | +
:orange: :champagne: Mimosa
|
| 65 | +
:doughnut: Chocolate Glazed Donut
|
| 66 | +
:fire: :fish_cake: Cinnamon Roll
|
| 67 | +
|
| 68 | +
|
| 69 | + |
| 70 | +Brach's always manages to come up with some interesting flavors and |
| 71 | +(and remixes of past flavors) for these limited edition packages. |
| 72 | + |
| 73 | +Mimosa is the most interesting flavor here, |
| 74 | +a flavor unlike any I've previously encountered. |
| 75 | +It does an excellent job of adding a champagne-esque layer |
| 76 | +to a strong base of orange with adequate acidity. |
| 77 | +The worst thing about this bag is that the proportions are lopsided, and |
| 78 | +there are far too few Mimosa beans and far too many of the |
| 79 | +Chocolate Glazed Donut and Caramel Cold Brew beans. |
| 80 | +Both of those flavors are good enough, but they also feel the most like |
| 81 | +common non-fruit jelly bean flavors I've had in the past. |
| 82 | + |
| 83 | +Blueberry Maple Pancake and Berry Smoothie are individually quite pleasant |
| 84 | +and also make for a nice pairing if you munch on them simultaneously. |
| 85 | +They both do a good job of exhibiting all parts of the flavors in their names. |
| 86 | + |
| 87 | +Cinnamon Roll is my least favorite of the bunch, but I do appreciate that |
| 88 | +it's a completely different take on cinnamon than |
| 89 | +a classic cinnamon candy flavor, which I have always disliked. |
| 90 | + |
| 91 | +**8 out of 10 beans** |
| 92 | + |
| 93 | + |
| 94 | +## The one-of-each test |
| 95 | + |
| 96 | +Perhaps the ultimate test of a bag of jelly beans is how enjoyable it is |
| 97 | +to take one of each flavor and eat them all at the same time.[^1] |
| 98 | + |
| 99 | +This is easily the most interesting one-of-each test of the season! |
| 100 | +All of these flavors work pretty well together, |
| 101 | +with the brightness of the fruity flavors complementing the |
| 102 | +more desserty flavors quite well. |
| 103 | +The chocolate and cinnamon notes are really hard to pick out, though. |
| 104 | + |
| 105 | +**7 out of 10 beans** |
| 106 | + |
| 107 | + |
| 108 | +## Conclusion |
| 109 | + |
| 110 | +Category | Score |
| 111 | +---------------- | --------------- |
| 112 | +Size and shape | **2**/5 beans |
| 113 | +Chewability | **5**/5 beans |
| 114 | +Texture | **3**/5 beans |
| 115 | +Taste and flavor | **8**/10 beans |
| 116 | +One-of-each test | **7**/10 beans |
| 117 | +---------------- | --------------- |
| 118 | +_Total_ | **25**/35 beans |
| 119 | + |
| 120 | +That's a pretty good note on which to end the season! |
| 121 | +I definitely recommend that folks check out this collection |
| 122 | +if they can find any still in stock. |
| 123 | + |
| 124 | +See you back here for whatever new sets we can rustle up next year! |
| 125 | + |
| 126 | + |
| 127 | +--- |
| 128 | + |
| 129 | +[^1]: I reserve the right to excuse certain flavors from this test that would ruin it for all the other flavors. |
