Is it hard to make an animation for a teleported? Maybe make a platform and when you walk on it there is some kind of electricity that goes around you.

This could be more simply be implemented as just a particle effect. The player goes invisible immediately while a star emitter does a quick burst, then after a slight delay the transfer is done. At least in my mind it sounds like an adequate and quick way to initially implement this.

I submit that this would be fine for levels based around more technology, but that it would be inconsistent and out of place with the levels that are more natural environments (eg the current hills, jungle, snow levels etc).

I think the idea of teleporters could still work. I'd just prefer that we tried to not make it look overly high-tech. That said, Mario really never had the market cornered on players moving offscreen through a door or other shaped exit. That was in hundreds of games both before and after SMB. Admittedly though, using pipes is pretty specific (although I could still name a number of other games - some pre-smb which did this).

Either way, I would ask that we consider options that are generic enough to avoid clashing with any of the major level design types.
