Project Description
Dood is an offline dog "walkie-talkie" inspired by the Galton whistle, bridging voice or text commands with a LoRa mesh network to help trainers and owners command dogs with ease. The mesh consists of two nodes: one worn on the dog's collar and the other held by the trainer. When the owner says a command like "Sit", a local keyword-spotting algorithm running locally on a CNN accelerator processes the audio via microphone, recognises the word, and transmits a unique character sequence to the collar over Meshtastic. The dog's collar triggers an onboard ultrasonic piezo buzzer that generates a specific frequency matched to that specific word, allowing for seamless, and silent training and communication even in remote locations.
Tech Stack
- C
- Python
- MAX78000
- Wio-WM1110 Wireless Module

Search & Rescue / Lost Dog Recovery
In a search-and-rescue scenario where a dog becomes lost or separated, the owner can easily locate them using the system. By leveraging the dog's live GPS location and orientation data transmitted over the Meshtastic mesh network, the owner can determine exactly which direction the dog is facing or moving for efficient tracking. Additionally, the owner can issue a "Return to Home" command, which immediately overrides the current mission or training sequence and signals the dog to head straight back to the home base for a swift recovery.
