Project Description

The GuM! Stick is a highly adaptable, low cost, easy to assemble every-day carry node. Based around an NRF52840 Xiao and a Wio-SX1262, this pocketable node offers a long battery life from a Li-ion 14500 (AA sized) cell, with an dedicated charging circuit to provide protection against temperature and state of charge extremes. No worries about damaged batteries if left in a car overnight in heat or cold, and protection of essential components should the battery fail.

An internal antenna allows all of this to fit neatly into a package roughly the size of a pack of gum, easily able to slip into a pocket or clip onto a keychain. Make your case your own, as discreet or loud as you like!

Bring a pack of GuM! Sticks to share with friends!

Message to the Organizers

Hello,

We're a team of two working on a compact LoRa node with the intent of making mesh communications appealing and accessible to those not already in the space. Our take on that is a simple to use, clean node that is also customizable with case designs. To approach that demographic we're developing the GuM! Stick, sweet and easy to share while also fitting in a pocket if you don't want to be pestered.

We've elected to use a dedicated charging circuit to protect against over discharge and temperature extremes, issues we've observed damaging batteries on our own nodes. The battery is a 14500 Li-ion battery, easy to change should one get tired and just clips into the back while offering more protection against puncture and mishandling than a li-po.

We want to make joining a mesh as accessible and self-expressive as possible, and hope to reflect those ideals over the course of the contest and beyond!
