Legacy authentication strategy / email+password account checkout?

Hello! I have a requirement to use basic email+password customer accounts and not magic links. I've seen in this legacy example that it is possible, but will not maintain authentication between your Hydrogen storefront and checkout. Are there any full examples including checkout for this, or will email+password be supported by the Customer Account API at some point?
