Need working demo of metaobjects

This repo has a really useful demo of metafields (for hero assets for example) but I could really use a working example of metaobjects in hydrogen.

I tried following the metaobject instructions and doing it myself: https://github.com/Shopify/storefront-api-learning-kit but in hydrogen this example gives me a 200 + vite permissions error.

Use case: I have detailed vendor information that I'm storing as metaobjects in shopify (URL, individualized return policies) and would like to pull them in based on products.

Any ideas on the best format to deliver this?

• Code example repo that can be shared in places like awesome-hydrogen and linked out on .dev
• Add a step to hello world to IPO that includes metaobjects
• Create a workshop specific to H2 and metaobjects
• something else...

I know @benjaminsehl was keen to bring back an /examples folder.

Otherwise it would make for a great workshop.

With either approach I think the content should come from the hydrogen-preview store.

I remember some critiques of the old examples page, possibly that it was a long list of resource cards. Looking at the archived docs for H1, the method was changed to point to the repo that contained the examples: https://shopify.github.io/hydrogen-v1/tutorials/best-practices/examples

@sperghetti — you're reading my mind!

The original hero section was actually meant to be a metaobject but it wasn't out yet so we didn't ship it as that … and it's been a thing I've been wanting to come back to since then!

Have some thoughts for how we can provide a great examples of Metaobjects in the demo store and aim to do that very soon.

One of the challenge with both Metafields and Metaobjects is that when you connect the Demo Store to your admin, they break (as you'll see from connecting the demo store today) — so we'll want to build this in a way where it fails gracefully and has sufficient inline documentation to be able to build your own stuff.

I can see this being a bit fiddly since you can't yet add metaobjects on the shop level. So I'm guessing you'd have to create a page, look for that page's handle and get its metaobject content?

FYI the vite error is solved in Hydrogen 2, and @benjaminsehl the way I ended up doing it was creating a fallback metaobject in case the main one didn't load from shopify. My use case was a custom navigation depending on where I am in the app, which was loaded through metaobjects.

So how do you actually make a hero, currently? Or can someone point me to the docs?

I found a section in the repo and made a meta object 'hero' and added all the meta fields
