RR7 has a few weird design decisions. There are now 3 configuration files needed (well, 2, but even though one is optional, it's almost mandatory) to run RR7 (vite.config.ts, react-router.config.ts, app/routes.ts) react-router.config.ts is not strictly needed, but it's the only way to configure RR7.

RR7 also generates types into the root of your project (under .react-router), with no way of changing that location (for example, into node_modules, like Prisma does). The vite plugin also uses the real filesystem to look for files (to be fair, so did Remix, but the configuration ability of the vite plugin, and the lack of enforcement of app/routes.ts wasn't there, so you could work around it), so we can't even use vite to re-map files to another location.

I hide large parts of this template under two custom dependencies (one for Eslint, and one for vite and the building process), I use for all my Shopify Apps. It just exposes a custom "bin" and I got everything vite could do, but didn't have to maintain all the different configurations across all the apps I have.

So, given Shopifys stake in Remix. Will this template be updated to RR7, or are you taking another approach?

I just followed the RR7 upgrade guide and it's easy to upgrade BUT unfortunately the shopify-app-remix package is still dependent on remix and not working with RR7 yet.

Hopefully there will be an upgrade path soon.

You don't really need the remix package as it largely deals with legacy & utilities, see above for a worker example or docs for express https://shopify.dev/docs/apps/build/authentication-authorization/set-embedded-app-authorization

Hey everyone 👋

Appreciate you showing an interest in React Router v7. We don't yet have an answer, but this is an area we are actively exploring. We want to make any migration gradual and painless and we want to take advantage of some of the features that React Router v7 has over Remix.

Some-one from the team will report back when we have something more concrete.
