Context
The current skate map is live and useful, but the mobile/website experience needs improvement. We want to keep the benefits of the embedded Google My Maps workflow while making the app feel more native and smoother.
Goals
- Improve mobile UX around scrolling, zooming, fullscreen, and spot discovery
- Keep Google Maps embed / My Maps benefits instead of replacing it blindly
- Document how the embed helps SEO and where it does not
- Explore complementary improvements: indexable spot content, better nearby mode, clearer add-spot flow, and stronger internal links
SEO notes to validate
- The embed itself helps usability/trust and can increase engagement, but Google usually does not index iframe contents as first-party page content.
- The SEO value mostly comes from our own indexable page text, structured data, internal links, page title/meta, and spot content around the map.
- Google Maps/My Maps can also be discoverable in Google surfaces, but we should not rely on iframe content alone for rankings.
Acceptance criteria
- Mobile UX review completed
- Concrete implementation plan or PR opened
- SEO explanation documented for the team
- No regression to the existing Google Maps embed flow
