Getting all telemetry (for an OSD)

Hello,
I was looking at implementing an interface between SRXL2 and MSP (to build an OSD), and I was wondering what would be the best way to achieve that. It looks like I could register my device as a telemetry receiver, but from the code it looks like only the best receiver will actually get the data?
Is there a way to "request" the telemetry? This might be how SPMVT1001 got its telemetry from the FC.
