Do I need to purchase SPDF before i could change the icons, logos, and other customization?

I tried to do the customFiles/static instruction, but it is not working.

No purchase is required! Customization of icons, logos, and branding is completely free in Stirling-PDF.

If customFiles/static isn't working for you, here are common fixes depending on your setup:

For Docker:

1. Make sure you have the volume mounted correctly in your docker-compose.yml:

   volumes:
     - ./customFiles:/customFiles/

2. Place files in the correct structure, e.g., customFiles/static/favicon.svg or customFiles/static/classic-logo/ for logo files
3. Fully restart the container with docker compose down && docker compose up -d (not just restart)

For JAR installations:
You need to enable custom files explicitly with the Java property:

-DCUSTOM_HTML_FILES=true

And set the path in /configs/custom_settings.yml:

customFileLocation: /path/to/customFiles

Also, try testing in incognito/private browsing to rule out browser caching issues.

Here's the exact setup for Docker:

File names are case-sensitive and must match exactly. The app checks customFiles/static/ first before falling back to defaults, so you only need to include the files you want to replace.

But, when I downloaded the desktop app, the changes didn't reflect, when only in the browser.

Glad the browser customization worked!

The desktop app is a separate native application built with Tauri that has its own bundled UI. When you run it standalone (not connected to your Docker server), it uses its own embedded assets — so your custom logos from the Docker customFiles/static/ directory won't appear.

If you connect the desktop app to your self-hosted Docker instance, it may load some content from your server, but custom branding in the desktop app specifically doesn't appear to be fully supported based on current documentation.

For now, your custom branding will show up when accessing Stirling-PDF through a web browser pointed at your Docker instance. The desktop app branding appears to be a limitation of the current architecture.

We can work on having desktop apply and show these changes but would be a enhancement, but makes perfect sense to do
