CRITICAL ISSUES FOUND AND FIXED
The original Rust structs had incorrect memory layouts that would have caused GPU kernel crashes and data corruption. All alignment issues have been fixed with compile-time assertions to prevent future regressions.

} data;
uint32_t result_code; // offset 44, 4 bytes
};
// TOTAL: 48 bytes (padded from 44)The CUDA union contains a batch variant with two 8-byte pointers and one 4-byte integer. Due to alignment requirements:
float* data: 8 bytesuint32_t count: 4 bytes- padding: 4 bytes (to align next pointer)
float* output: 8 bytes
This makes the union 24 bytes, not 12 bytes as the Rust code assumed.

- CPU writes Command (32 bytes) to unified memory
- GPU reads Command expecting 48 bytes
- GPU reads past the 32-byte boundary into next command
- Garbage data interpreted as command fields
- Result: Kernel crash or incorrect behavior

- Pointer alignment matters - 8-byte pointers need specific padding
- Always verify struct layouts when using FFI with C/C++
- Compile-time assertions prevent silent failures
- Test on actual hardware - emulation might miss alignment issues
# Run alignment tests
cargo test alignment
# Build and check for assertion failures

RUST_LOG=warn cargo test -- --nocapture- src/cuda_claw.rs - Fixed Command struct, added assertions
- tests/alignment_test.rs - New alignment verification tests
- MEMORY_LAYOUT_AUDIT.md - Detailed analysis document
All memory alignment issues have been identified, fixed, and verified with compile-time assertions. The GPU kernel will no longer crash due to struct layout mismatches.
