how to get rid of thin border? #955

I'm putting together a shell for a Pi that is in the style of a Vectrex console so using retro-cool-terminal is ideal for getting the look and feel right, but as you can see in the attached image there's a thin (3 to 5 px?) margin still around the display even though it's fullscreen. I did already set the margin to 0 and the colour to black but that didn't remove it. Am I stuck with this or is there a way to remove it or set it to full back? Since the margin looks bowed I do think it's coming from the retro-cool-terminal and not the shell that I invoked it from. (If the border can't be suppressed, take this post as an enhancement request.)

(FYI it's a 3.5in 360x480 HDMI display. I've added a photo of the 3D printed shell just for information, but it's the first photo that shows the border that's the relevant one)
