Description

I am not sure of the correct wording for this, or if this isn't possible with QT, but not allowing users to interact with, for instance, the main window if a dialog box is open is very frustrating. For errors and such, it makes sense, but for settings, macros, information, and managers, it does not. It leads to a number of problems:

  1. Users cannot focus the application by clicking the main window. They need to find whatever dialog box is active (which, if other programs are in use, may be behind other windows) and focus it.
  2. Users cannot cross-reference items. For example, perhaps you would like to manage tags, and want to look at a few specific entries for reference. Because of this limitation, users need to exit the manager, click the entry they want to look at, and re-enter the manager. In this example, it may not matter much, since you can edit tags from entries, but what if you wanted to do this with many tags? Or some other similar activity?
  3. Users multiple dialogs deep cannot re-arrange lower dialogs. If the dialog is covering something you want to see, in TagStudio or not, you need to either unfocus/minimize the entire app, or close the upper dialog box, which isn't always possible.

Solution

Allow users to interact with windows while dialog boxes are open.

Alternatives

Compromises that partially fulfill this request: Allow users to move and resize windows/dialogs lower than the current one
