React is undefined after upgrading to react 17 with react-table 7

Appears to be same issue as here and here, although I'm using CRA and not rails.

I'm using react 17.0.2 and react-table 7.8.0. Has anyone seen this before or have a solution? The solution in the first thread is specific to rails.
