Thank you! We can add this language in theory but we may need to do some extra maintenance work too.

We follow the ISO 639-3 standard, which defines Azerbaijani as a "family" of two languages:

• Azerbaijani (aze) → this is actually a macrolanguage
  • North Azerbaijani (azj)
  • South Azerbaijani (azb)

On Tatoeba, we currently have a single language called Azerbaijani and classified using the code aze. So if we want to add South Azerbaijani, we should remove "Azerbaijani" and have "South Azerbaijani" and "North Azerbaijani" instead. Which means reassigning current Azerbaijani sentences into either South or North Azerbaijani.

Also you mentioned that North and South Azerbaijani mainly differs in terms of script. It seems that having North/South Azerbaijani as separate languages contradicts with the idea of having a Cyrillic/Arabic conversion in #3233. So I am not sure what we should do at that point.

Sentences under Azerbaijani language belong to North Azerbaijani (azj).

I forgot to mention that there's one more important difference in South Azerbaijani -- loan words. South Azerbaijani has some Persian/Arabic loan words, which makes the language a bit different than North.

To conclude, we should have North Azerbaijani (azj) that would contain Latin/Cyrillic script, and South Azerbaijani (azb).

@pullsuzdesheloper Thanks for clarifying. I want to ask about the language icon. We are currently using the flag of Azerbaijan as language icon for Azerbaijani (aze). If we are renaming Azerbaijani (aze) into North Azerbaijani (azj), is it okay to also use the flag of Azerbaijan to represent North Azerbaijani (azj), of should we use something else?
