[Bug Report] UI - Potis glitch out and are unresponsive

Describe the bug
Potis behave rather unresponsive/laggy. Graphical glitches occour while turning the pots. This behaviour is true for every pot. The sliders (ADSR section) work fine. The other buttons work as expected as well.

Desktop (please complete the following information):

• OS: Ubuntu Studio 24.04
• Reaper 7.39 Linux Version
• VST3

OpenGL version string: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 550.144.03

Additional context

Edit: Added OpenGL and nvidia info. I also compiled Odin2 from source and executed the standalone version to get the DAW out of the equation. Same results; the pots cause glitching effects and are lagging/stuttering while the sliders operate smoothly.

Hmm, hard to say what could be at fault here.. As you have the standalone compiled already could you try to go into your nvidia_settings (from apt package nvidia-settings and there in the tab for OpenGL settings disable vertical sync / vblank? (Idk what the setting is called exactly, but something like that).

You reported earlier that the issue didn't happen in the beginning and only later. Could maybe something in your system has changed? The Spline ad shouldn't be an issue, that's just a page sitting in memory which is never shown 99% of the time and has no impact on the UI.

I did just change the vsync setting as you've requested and rebooted to make sure the setting was actually applied and didn't reset. The problem is still occuring.

I deleted that section of my report because in hindsight I wasn't sure if that's actually a true statement. Moving the potentiometer slowly, the graphical glitches aren't that obvious. When I started working with the new UI version, I only adjusted my already existing patches in a WIP project and there was no need to rapidly change values on a pot. I probably just missed the glitches.

Just to add onto this: Rebooting the system resets this setting to the default value! Have you also tried it before rebooting? Just restarting the standalone after saving the settings should be fine.

Yes, I did test it right after changing the settings in the nvidia panel and then just did the reboot to make sure. The option Sync to VBlank was still deactivated after the reboot.

Is there any information I can provide you with to help diagnose the issue?

Edit: I don't know if Spline is done with a different UI framework than Odin2 but every potentiometer in Spline works perfectly fine.

I did some more testing:

I wrote some rapid automations of the Filter knob into an automation lane to check the poti behaviour without mouse interaction. It works perfectly fine. The knob moves smoothly without glitching or any other sort of stutter. The same is true when using the mouse to operate the X/Y pad. Using the pad makes the X/Y potis move correctly. Using the actual X/Y pots produces the UI glitches and stutters.

This makes me wonder: Since the vertical sliders are completely unaffected in the first place - mouse interaction or not - are the popup boxes with the value displays causing the issue? They aren't displayed while moving the potis with automation lanes. They aren't displayed while operating the X/Y pad either.

I also noticed: The problem exists on the mod/pitch wheels as well. What they have in common with the potis visually is the bigger size of the popup boxes/font. The ADSR sliders have small boxes and a smaller font in comparison.

The ADSR boxes stay fairly static while values are modified. In comparison, the boxes with the bigger fonts are constantly changing their size, even when they stay in a range that wouldn't require resizing (f.e. 0.300-0.399 on the pitch wheel).

Edit:

More testing. I tried to reproduce the problem on a laptop with onboard graphics. The same glitches happen. This is not contained to one machine.
