[IDEA] Some Suggestions to improve the range-widget

I was wondering if it is possible to do a couple of things with the range widget. Is it possible to add tick marks to the range widget and is it possible to the mouse wheel to move it?

The $eventcatcher widget can catch $wheel events. However, I don't know how to get access to the event.deltaY value.
