Looking for a reliable way to install, get 403s randomly when I try to install from github

The only way I have seen to install Dasel in a Ubuntu Github Action is the manual method

curl -sSLf "$(curl -sSLf https://api.github.com/repos/tomwright/dasel/releases/latest | grep browser_download_url | grep linux_amd64 | grep -v .gz | cut -d\" -f 4)" -L -o dasel && chmod +x dasel
mv ./dasel /usr/local/bin/dasel

The issue is that api.github.com will throw 403s if you do this too often. Is there any way to install Dasel with apt-get? Or any other way to avoid the 403s?

I did not set this up and have not maintained it so your results may vary.

How would that look in practice?

I have a command like

dasel put -t string -f config.yaml -s 'data.property' -v value

does that become

docker run -i --rm ghcr.io/tomwright/dasel:latest put -t string -f config.yaml -s 'data.property' -v value

if I run just the cat config.yaml then I do see the yaml contents

This seems to be a bug with dasel rather than being able to access the config file contents.

If you have a working command, substitute ghcr.io/tomwright/dasel:v2.1.1 to reference the version of dasel your command works with and it should be good.

I was installing dasel with

Which seems to still work. I tried the docker command with latest and v2.0.0 and got same error on both. Thinking it's not related to version.

I hate to be using so much of your time, for now I found a yq github action that gets the job done for me

   - name: Update yaml
        uses: mikefarah/yq@master
        with:
          cmd: yq -i '.data.somekey = "somevalue"' path/to/config.yaml

Happy to help resolve the issue, but no pressure since I have something that works for now.
