Disable auto-save

Everything's fine
But the non-disabled auto save spoils everything. everything.
Why? Why?

So many settings, but why is there no such simple thing?
Please make just one setting:

Disable auto-save
If auto-save is disabled, then you need to press Ctrl+S to save it.
If you do not press and close it, a warning will pop up that the document is not saved.

Just as a curiosity... why do you consider a manual save as a better option here?

I'm used to opening a file: Change something, cut it, paste it, and then close it without saving it. If auto-save is enabled, this scenario is not possible.

When auto-save is enabled, it's scary to touch the document, suddenly I'll ruin something and not notice it (accidentally pressed CTRL-X somewhere instead of CTRL+C)

For me, working in a program with auto-save is like walking through a minefield.

For example, this is why I can't use Obsidia, as the developers of this program stupidly ignore the request of many users to add option disable auto-save.

And there are people who are used to manually saving a file (Ctrl+S), and they can make changes to the file accidentally or on purpose, but not have the goal of saving them.

I'm not necessarily against disabling auto-save but I would be cautious about the technical implications for it.

I saw some users bind the "Force Save Revision" keyboard shortcut to Ctrl+S which integrates neatly with the revision system. Note that Ctrl+S is already bound to Quick Search, so you'd have to change that keyboard shortcut.

Unless the feature request gains some traction (i.e. requested by multiple people), I don't see it implemented in the core.

Why even discuss all this? We only need to add a button to disable auto-save. It’s entirely up to users to set their shortcuts as they prefer.

If you're worried that users might lose their notes because of this, you can add a warning message next to the disable auto-save button, for example:
Auto-save has been turned off. Please save your notes manually. Recommended shortcut settings are as follows:

• The 保存 key set Ctrl+S
• The Quick search key set: Ctrl+Alt+S

@mnmmo , it's not as simple as adding a button. Adding a new option is a commitment, every single change branches off the logic of the application which complicates both maintenance and testing.

Auto-save in particular is pretty deeply integrated into the application, we can't simply put in a toggle for it. Unless it gains traction, the cost outweighs the value.

I don't think an option like disabling auto-save is a very difficult task. Moreover, it will be as an option, not by default.

I'm sure a lot of people are used to working and controlling the saving process on their own.

I use Notepad++, Notepad4, Photoshop, VSCode, LibreOffice and everywhere I can control the saving process.

And if there is no such possibility, no matter how good the program is, it becomes impossible to use it just because of auto-care.

Of course, a lot of people here won't ask for such a feature to be enabled. since very few people, if something is missing in the program, will go to github-Issues and generally talk about it :(

Please do not ignore my request to add the option to disable auto-save.

Considering how many, sooooo many functions there are in Trilium, I don't think that the ability to disable just one function is a very difficult task.

Nope, it's not as simple as it seems. Disabling auto-save is more like making a fundamental change to how the program operates—it's not just a quick toggle. It would require reworking several key systems that are deeply integrated into the app, which makes it a lot more complicated than just flipping a switch.
