Since mid 2025 a lot of players have encountered this issue. The issue seems to happen randomly and at moment there is no official way to fix.
What I have tried to fix:
- Disabling IPv6;
- Dedicated Servers on both Linux and Windows;
- Using VPN;
- Restarting Steam;
- Veryfing game files;
- Using Windows 10, 11 as well Windows Server 2025;
- Using Linux (Debian and Mint)
- Servers without and with sourcemod;
- Different Steam accounts;
- Different clientport;
- Different networks;
- Tried the cl_resend some people recommend, even if it seems placebo for this case;
Also, some people said they contacted Valve devs and their are working on a way to fix. I don't know how much this is true, however I did contacted Valve support and they said they fowarded this to Left 4 Dead 2 team.
Reproduction steps
Although this appears to happen randomly, you can use your own dedicated server as start point. It doesn't matter if you have sourcemod/metamod there.
- To reproduce this error you just need to enter a game that is not hosted by you.
