📝 Original request

Hi Uniswap team,

I’m writing to request the re-enablement of the TORN token (Tornado Cash) on the Uniswap front-end interface. On March 21, 2025, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) officially removed Tornado Cash and its associated smart contract addresses from the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) List.

This action is reflected in OFAC’s official release:

This means Tornado Cash as a protocol is no longer under U.S. sanctions. While individuals (such as one of its co-founders) remain on the list, the tool itself and its smart contracts have been explicitly delisted, addressing previous legal and compliance concerns.

Given Uniswap’s commitment to open access and decentralized finance, and in light of this significant policy update, I kindly request that the Uniswap interface once again allow users to search and interact with the TORN token.

Thank you for your attention, and I appreciate your continued dedication to compliance and innovation.

Best regards

🔄 Update – March 26, 2025

Following up on my previous request regarding the re-enablement of the TORN token on the Uniswap front-end, I would like to provide some additional context.

First, I want to highlight Uniswap Labs’ own FAQ regarding token warnings:

“Token warnings are created using information from Blockaid. Blockaid employs a combination of dynamic and static heuristics, AI, and machine learning models to scrutinize each new token created onchain. Uniswap Labs does not guarantee their accuracy and makes no representations or warranties about their relevance or currentness.”

“Blockaid is not an affiliate of Uniswap Labs, and Uniswap Labs does not independently verify information provided by Blockaid.”

🔗 Uniswap FAQ – What are token warnings

Based on this, I contacted Blockaid directly to request a re-evaluation of the TORN token in light of the U.S. Treasury’s decision on March 21, 2025, to remove Tornado Cash and its associated contracts from the SDN List.

Blockaid has now reviewed the token and responded with the following:

Thank you for submitting your verification request to Blockaid.
We have completed our review of your verification request for uniswap.org.
After a thorough verification, this Token is flagged as benign by Blockaid
but still unsellable on Uniswap due to internal policy.
Please contact Uniswap directly on this issue.

This clearly indicates that the restriction is no longer based on Blockaid’s assessment, but rather an internal decision by Uniswap Labs.

Given the updated legal status of Tornado Cash and the benign classification from Blockaid, I respectfully request that Uniswap Labs reconsider the current restriction and restore access to the TORN token on the front-end.

Thank you for your attention.
