Font gets messed up without user action

Hey,
I used codium for several day/weeks/years and everything was fine....

However. Recently this happend:
The Font just changed to this unreadable mess. I have no Idea why this happend.
Well, could it be, because I started VScodium from within a distrobox... This is something I did rescently.
But it worked before and the fond has not changed.

And... how can I revert it back?

I already deleted the entire vscodium config folder and restarted ...
The font is still messed up!

Ya, it can happen on some system. Use terminal.integrated.fontFamily to set font.

It unfortunatley had no effect.
I removed VScodium entirely from my disk. Deleted all config files and the entire folder ...
Downloaded it again... and the font was still messed up.
Not just in the terminal but in all of vscodium...

I even downloaded the .appimage version.... same... font is messed up.

the font is not messed up in any other app... only in vscodium.

I am using Linux Bazzite.

I even installed it via Bazzar .... and I emphasize: after deleting everything codium related (At least what I know of)...
Still... font it completly messed up to an unuseable level without any indication why. Completly suddenly (At least of my knowledge) and without a specific font related action of me (At least of my knowledge).

This is extremely frustrating!

It worked for literally years without any problems and now this ... what?

Look at the font currently used: Menu/Help/Toggle Developer Tools, select an element and look for the font-family in the Computed tab.

On linux, the default font should be system-ui, "Ubuntu", "Droid Sans", sans-serif

Try "workbench.experimental.fontFamily": "monospace" and "terminal.integrated.fontFamily": "arial", you should see changes.

Look at fonts on your system (fc-list).
Try using one of them. Try restarting or reloading (Shift+Ctrl+P/Developer: Reload Window) the editor after a change, even if it shouldn't be needed.
It seems like it's using a "New Times"-like font.

It's because system-ui, "Ubuntu", "Droid Sans", sans-serif resolve to an unusual font on your system. Most likely system-ui since "Ubuntu", "Droid Sans", sans-serif are serif-free fonts while the font displayed has serif.

monospace and sans-serif are classes font so they should resolve to a font which is a monospace font or a sans-serif font. Either VSCodium can't access the those fonts or no monospace/sans-serif fonts are installed (unlikely).

gives me :
NotoSansMono-Regular.ttf: "Noto Sans Mono" "Regular"

I tested this in libre write. Its a fine sans-serif font....

It just still has no effect

Check if you run fontconfig 2.18 or a later dot-release. I had to downgrade on Arch to 2.17 because of serious font selection bug(s).
