Codium super laggy using iCloud

When a user installs Codium and they have iCloud syncing enabled on their computer, the editor gets super laggy.

Please confirm that this problem is VSCodium-specific

• This bug doesn't happen if I use Microsoft's Visual Studio Code. It only happens in VSCodium.

Please confirm that the issue/resolution isn't already documented

• I checked the Docs page and the Troubleshooting page and my issue is not mentioned there.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Have iCloud enabled with syncing on computer
2. Install VSCodium
3. Make a new file
4. Begin typing & see lag

This is an observation I have made in my classroom when asking students to install VSCodium instead of VSCode. This is only a Mac issue and only on computers that enable iCloud. I do not have iCloud on my computer and am unable to test! But I wonder if disabling online cloud syncing would fix.

Because of the lag, students are unable to follow along with class demos and we end up using VSCode instead, which I would rather not do.

Which versions have you tested? On which macOS?

VSCode/VSCodium can have issue with network drives so that they disable watching files on network/external drives:

I will have check how iCloud maps the drive. I have a mac but don't use iCloud on it.

The difference VSCode/VSCodium on the same version can come from Electron since VSCode is shipped with a custom version (with early patches which might be added to later version of Electron, but I don't know which ones...)

Unfortunately this is typically an issue I only see at the beginning of the semester so I don't have the versions at this moment but I can take note of them in the future! The last time I ran into this issue was beginning of spring semester (late Jan 2026). Typically students are on whichever is the most recent.

But I can also find someone around who has iCloud and get them to test as well.
