Specifying the grid used for data requested on cell boundaries #3
Description
The majority of data is requested on cell centers. For such data the cell_measures attribute should be set and this attribute indicates which grid the data is on (e.g. cell_measures="area: areacello" implies data on the oceanic grid). A few variables are requested on exactly the locations used in the models (e.g. the wind components on model levels used to drive regional models, or the horizontal sea-ice fluxes). For these variables the realm is the only attribute which can convey the appropriate information. For the sea-ice variables, they may be on either atmos or ocean grid, depending on the model.
The daily 8-level ua, va in CMIP5 were specified without cell_measures ... proposing to change this in CMIP6.
