No it is not, it is for all data. There is a legacy issue for older data. We decided, given the resources available, that we would not migrate CMIP5 data. However, yesterday we were discussing CORDEX-CMIP6 and obs4MIPs. For the new system we have designed it to be more modular so you can add other data beyond CMIP7. If you are part of a modelling centre that would like to become an ESGF node and contribute compute/storage and/or replication capacity to the community infrastructure, please contact [email protected] Answer provided by Phil Kershaw (ESGF Executive Committee co-chair) live during the session . |

A follow up - will the current version of ESGF be maintained for some years? Thinking whether we will have to develop new workflows for CMIP6 data... We currently download data off ESGF for CMIP6 and CMIP5 then need to delete once we are done due to storage. Will the current version be maintained or will everything migrate to the new version, meaning we need to change our workflows? Yes, unfortunately we are having to migrate everything. There is good reason for that. There is significant legacy in what we have. The system we have was put together in 2009, over 15 years is a very long time for a software system. We have had to make changes but are mindful of client tooling. For instance ESG publish, it is still the same interface, appears the same but the re-engineering is behind the the interface. ESG Pull is another example where the existing facility is being re-engineered for the new system. Answer provided by Phil Kershaw (ESGF Executive Committee co-chair) live during the session . |
