How to register a grid for which there is no standard yet? Can multiple models have the same native grid which is then registered multiple times?Question raised and answered during the CMIP7 Infrastructure Drop-in session on 5th November 2025 at 08:00 UTC |

Yes and no! The essential model documentation has a section describing grids which allows you to uniquely identify any grid to remove chance for duplicate registration. It includes information about the projection, the stagger location of variables, anchor reference grid cell location etc. There should be no confusion between grids and there is no distinction between native or non-native grid. Description of the grids is identical and has sufficient information in it that there can be no confusion.
