Problem

Users need a dedicated image field type (distinct from the generic file field) for profile pictures, galleries, and image-centric custom fields. The current file field lacks image-specific features like visual preview, lightbox integration, and default MIME type filtering for images. This issue was created by Rey as a feature request following the pattern of the video field (commit 283afa5).

Related: wpum-custom-fields#42 (likely the same request tracked in the addon repo).

Proposed Solution

Create a new image field type in core following the same pattern as the video field:

1. Add field type class WPUM_Field_Image in includes/fields/types/class-wpum-field-image.php
2. Register the field type in WPUM_Fields loader
3. Use FilePond editor by default (consistent with video field)
4. Default file extension validation: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .webp
5. Provide visual preview on profile display
6. Template file: templates/forms/image-field.php

Acceptance Criteria

• GIVEN an admin creates an image custom field, WHEN a user uploads a file, THEN only image MIME types are accepted by default
• GIVEN an image field is rendered on a profile, WHEN the field has a value, THEN the image is displayed as an <img> tag (not a download link)
• GIVEN an image field uses FilePond, WHEN a user uploads, THEN they see an image preview before submission
• GIVEN an image field is empty, WHEN displayed on profile, THEN it shows nothing (not "false" — see related issue Image field without a value is displaying as false #52)
• GIVEN the field is registered, WHEN an admin adds a custom field, THEN "Image" appears in the field type dropdown

  • New: includes/fields/types/class-wpum-field-image.php (field type class extending WPUM_Field_Type)
  • New: templates/forms/image-field.php (frontend template)
  • Modified: includes/fields/class-wpum-fields.php (add image to registered types array)
• Dependencies: FilePond JS library (already included for video/file fields)
• Sensitive areas: File upload validation (must enforce image MIME types)
• Estimated effort: 1 week — Field type class is straightforward following the video field pattern. Main work is template styling, FilePond integration, and testing different image formats. Related to wpum-custom-fields#42 which may require coordination.
