Landscape Mode + Touch (Waveshare 27057)

Thanks for the script and great work,
as in my setup I can only use the display in landscape
is there a parameter or easy way to rotate your gui 90°?

Additionally I have seen that waveshare display (https://www.waveshare.com/1.69inch-touch-lcd-module.htm)
which has the same resolution and driver IC
but integrates touch as well.
Any chance that you implement touch features into your great script?

Thank you for your kind words and feedback!

As for the Waveshare display with touch integration, I actually plan to support this display in the future. While the display itself uses the same driver IC, implementing touch functionality would require additional work to handle the touch input.

I don’t anticipate releasing support for it sooner than in 3 months because my hands are currently full with other tasks. Additionally, this touchscreen display is likely to be part of my next project, during which I plan to add support for it as part of that development effort.

Great then I choose the right display for my project ;-),
only thing is that I would need at least landscape screen with same displayed parameters
within the next 1 max 2 weeks.
Touch could come later.

Sure, I am working on a 19 inch rack mount 1U status monitor for 8 raspberry pi 5.
CAD is ready, will mill the rack panel and assembly the displays in it in the next days.

I really like your project! Funny enough, a few months ago, I started designing something very similar, but I didn’t get time to finish it. And just 30 minutes ago, I installed a 19" rack setup for 4x Raspberry Pi 5, each with an M.2 NVMe slot for storage (DR-0001 model from 52Pi.com).

I’ll try to help you with rotating that image by 90 degrees soon.
By the way, in your setup, will the Raspberry Pi boards also have M.2 NVMe storage support?

Yes I have 2 1U Racks were I am installing the 8x Raspberry Pi 5 today

I am using using a HAT for POE+ Power (5V 5A) and SSD support:
https://www.welectron.com/Pineboards-TM1L-POE-HatDrive-POE-fuer-Raspberry-Pi-5

The 1U 8 displays will sit in between the 2 times 4 raspberry pis
and should enable to see the PI status at a glance when I walk by the rack.

For SSD I plan to add Seagate Firecuda (2TB) as they have a nice cooler installed which should increase lifetime.
Of course a bit overkill for the raspberry pi 5 port speeds ;-)

Cool! I have two questions that come to mind:

1. What’s your intended use case for a Raspberry Pi 5 cluster with NVMe?
2. How are you planning to connect the displays to the Raspberry Pi boards? With the adapter you showed, the GPIO header pins don’t extend above the connector. You’d need to use some kind of extension for those pins and then extend the connections to reach the displays, even when the rack with the Raspberry Pi boards is pulled out.

Use case is a cluster server with lots of data management, security and redundancy.

Connection to the displays and rack leds/button will probably be soldered directly
to the SMD pin of the 40pin header from the POE hat.
Making the pins longer would not fit the 1U hight limit.
Not nice but will work.

For being able to pull out the rack and take it to repair place if needed I use cables with connectors (with lock notch)
and solder one side on the poe hat and the other side on the included cable from the display
to not have to disconnect the small pcba connector on the tiny waveshare screens every time.

Something like that with the right pin amount or maybe 2 cables,
one for touch for one display connection for each display.
If 2 cables then of course different pin amounts to be poka yoke ;-)

Made some progress, HW is installed, cabling tomorrow evening, then I would need rotated software please ;-)

Hi, I tried installing it regarding the guideline but get an error when i use sudo ./run.sh
with sudo ./create_service.sh no error but also no screen. (just stays black)
What do I make wrong? Thanks

Hi, sry for the late reply, was sick the last days, influenca or some similar ugly thing...
Also had to change to another SSD and cabeling as the ones I planned does not fit inside the 1U rack slot.

Got all in the rack now and first of 8 is running so I expect the others to be up in the next hour.

Just one strange behavior when i start it either with single run or with service it works perfectly.
When I have it run as service and reboot the pi 5 via the HW button then display shows startup screen

but after that image goes black, any idea what that can be?
