Issue: #236
Type: Feature
Priority: Medium
Status: Ready for Review
This PR implements the get_fee_breakdown query function for the SwiftRemit smart contract, allowing users to preview detailed fee breakdowns before creating remittances. The function supports all fee strategies (Percentage, Flat, Dynamic) and corridor-specific fee configurations.
Previously, users could not preview the exact fee split before initiating a remittance transaction. This created uncertainty about:
- How much platform fee would be charged
- How much protocol/treasury fee would be deducted
- What the net payout amount would be
- Whether corridor-specific fees would apply
The new get_fee_breakdown function provides complete transparency into fee calculations before any transaction is committed.
Added a public query function get_fee_breakdown that:
- Accepts an amount and optional country corridor parameters
- Returns a detailed breakdown of all fees
- Supports all fee calculation strategies
- Requires no authorization (read-only)
- Is gas-efficient with O(1) complexity
pub fn get_fee_breakdown(
env: Env,
amount: i128,
from_country: Option<String>,
to_country: Option<String>,
) -> Result<FeeBreakdown, ContractError>pub struct FeeBreakdown {
pub amount: i128, // Original transaction amount
pub platform_fee: i128, // Platform fee charged
pub protocol_fee: i128, // Treasury/protocol fee
pub net_amount: i128, // Amount after all fees
pub corridor: Option<String>, // Optional corridor identifier

- Supports corridor-specific fee lookups
- Returns complete FeeBreakdown structure

Q: Why is this function read-only?
A: This is a query function to preview fees without modifying state. Users should call it before create_remittance() to verify fees, but the function itself doesn't execute transactions.
Q: What happens if corridor doesn't exist?
A: The function uses global fees and still populates the corridor field with country codes for informational purposes.
Q: Is there any gas optimization possible?
A: The function is already optimized with O(1) complexity. Caching could be added in future if needed.
Q: Can this function be called in a contract-to-contract context?
A: Yes, it's a public query function with no authorization requirements, making it ideal for other contracts or oracles.
| Risk | Severity | Mitigation |
|---|---|---|
| Calculation Error | Low | 30+ unit tests validate all scenarios |
| Integer Overflow | Low | Input validation and safe math operations |
| Corridor Lookup Failure | Low | Graceful fallback to global fees |
| Performance Impact | Negligible | O(1) complexity, no state changes |
| Breaking Changes | None | Pure addition, no modifications |
